Business Ethics Case: SUSTAINABILITY AT A BREWERY

The Brick City Brewing Company is a (fictional) small independent brewery established on the banks of the Genesee River in Henrietta, New York five years ago with the goal of producing a classier, tastier cream ale from the region.  The recent consumer trend towards the consumption of craft brews has been great for this small business, as it sells primarily to a young professional clientele throughout the state (particularly in Brooklyn).  It operates a 20,000 square-foot building, a thirty-barrel brewhouse, and offers public tastings and tours to paying customers.

·      What does sustainability mean?  How does it apply to the beverage industry?
·      On the local level, Brick City Brewing in concerned about the health of the Genesee River.  What actions can Brick City take to improve the quality of this waterway?
·      On the global scale, Brick City is concerned about climate change.  What sort of actions can Brick City take to address climate change?
·      How can Brick City enforce its sustainability policies throughout its supply chain?  Of particular concern are the agricultural products that Brick City acquires for its brewing processes.

·      How can Brick City promote its sustainability policies to its environmentally conscious consumers?
